John McGuirk MA, FdSc, IAPT, MBACP
My name is John McGuirk and I've set up Your Voice Counselling because I am passionate about offering a better mental health service in Bristol. I am a fully qualified, BACP accredited, experienced counsellor and supervisor. I am committed to offering a warm, friendly counselling relationship using effective therapeutic practices that have been shown by research to be effective.
People and their differences fascinate me. I've lived in Japan for three years, and travelled Asia for nine months and feel very lucky to have seen the many different ways people lived in places like Nepal, Tibet, and Japan. I like to write short-stories and enjoy regularly going to the gym. I am also a big fan of video games. I've been enjoying living in Bristol for over five years now.
My Work Experience
I have worked full-time at Positive Step, North Somerset as a counsellor for adults, and currently work at Off the Record, Bristol as a therapist for young people, a supervisor for therapists, and a Team Leader, project developer, and trainer in the organisation. I also run Your Voice Counselling as a private counsellor/psychotherapist in Bristol. In the past, I also worked for Swiis Healthcare, Bristol as a senior support worker, helping adults with learning difficulties, and before that I worked as a care assistant for BUPA Healthcare in a Bristol Nursing Home alongside people living with dementia.
